DCEC1105 Language and Literacy Development in Early Childhood Care and Education course unit expands on your knowledge of language and literacy development in young children. It introduces you to the processes of language and literacy development and the possible strategies you can adopt as a preschool teacher to develop young children’s language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. It is arranged in three (3) Units. Unit 1 introduces you to the Basics of Language Acquisition in Early Childhood: From Babbling to Sentence Formation, and Prereading Engagements. Unit 2 introduces you to the Diverse Aspects of Literacy in Early Childhood. Lastly, Unit 3 introduces you to the concept of Language and Literacy Across the Curriculum.
