Projects and Partnerships

The ECCE Research Center of Makerere University is engaged in various research projects and partnerships that aim to enhance the quality and accessibility of early childhood care and education services in Uganda. Some of our running projects and partnerships  are focused on:

  1. Curriculum Development and Assessment: Collaborating with national and international experts to develop, evaluate, and refine age-appropriate, inclusive, and culturally sensitive curricula for early childhood care and education settings.
  2. Teacher Training and Professional Development: Partnering with ECCE teacher training institutions, and other organizations to design and implement professional development programs that equip early childhood educators with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to deliver high-quality education and care.
  3. Parental Involvement and Support: Investigating the impact of parental involvement on children’s development and learning outcomes, and developing strategies to enhance parent engagement in early childhood education settings.
  4. Early Childhood Intervention Programs: Evaluating the effectiveness of early intervention programs and services for children with developmental delays, disabilities, or other special needs, and exploring innovative approaches to inclusive early education.
  5. Early Literacy and Numeracy: Conducting research on the development of early literacy and numeracy skills, and designing evidence-based interventions to improve children’s reading, writing, and mathematical abilities.
  6. Social-Emotional Development and Mental Health: Examining the factors that contribute to the social-emotional well-being of young children and their caregivers as well as  developing interventions to promote positive mental health in early childhood settings.
  7. Technology in Early Childhood Education: Exploring the use of technology in early childhood care and education settings, and evaluating the impact of digital tools and resources on children’s learning and development.
  8. Policy Analysis and Advocacy: Collaborating with policymakers, stakeholders, and advocacy groups to inform the development of policies and regulations that support access to high-quality early childhood care and education services for all children.
  9. Global Partnerships: Establishing and maintaining partnerships with international organizations, universities, and research centers to exchange knowledge, collaborate on research projects, and promote best practices in early childhood care and education.
