Course info

This course provides an overview of current developments in the assessment of English language learners in the context of school learning and academic achievement. How to structure assessment procedures to reflect best classroom practices, state and federal mandates are emphasized. Among the topics addressed are: purposes and forms of assessment, barriers to fair assessment of English Language, and designing or adapting assessment tools for varying levels of English language proficiency. Student teachers will have opportunities to both critically examine assessment tools used in current practice and to apply their knowledge by designing their own tools.
