Welcome to the Makerere University’s Institute of Teacher Education and Research (MITER). At MITER, we are committed to contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We are dedicated to achieving all the 17 SDGs but more so, the SDG4. As a leading institute of teacher education and research in Africa, we have critical role to play in the development of solutions to the global challenges. Our vision is to be a thought leader of knowledge generation for societal transformation and development and our mission is to provide transformative and innovative research and capacity programs that are responsive to the dynamic national and global needs.

With ingenuity and drive, the graduates of our research and capacity programs exit our institute with enormous capabilities to invent scalable education solutions that have potential to create hundreds of education jobs as well as life-wide and life-long learning opportunities. At the present, we are focused on augmenting government’s efforts to operationalize Uganda’s National Teacher Policy (2019) to achieve SDG 4. I take this opportunity to invite different development partners, civil society organizations, institutions, and willing individuals across the world to please join and support our research and capacity building activities to enable us to achieve the different SDGs in Uganda.
